The weather was definitely against us for our last few days in Cape Town, or maybe Mother Nature was just trying to make us feel at home, but that didn’t stop the fun. 🙃 We had a few blustery walks along the coastline, staying well clear of but enjoying the huge waves crashing against the rocks.
The South Africa Museum was excellent and we pretty much had the run of it to ourselves. The displays were hugely informative, very accessible for the kids and covered many aspects of South Africa from rock art, to cultural heritage to natural history ~ the highlight for the kids being the massive shark jaws and they did a highly convincing impression of having been chomped by them.
We also visited Company Gardens which were beautiful with all sorts of wondrous plants and trees, although at times it felt a bit like walking in the Temperate House in Kew Gardens. We saw a lot of different birds, and were thrilled to see a hawk swooping about, trying, in vain, to catch a pigeon or two for elevensies, and the kids (and I!) enjoyed the playground by the café before tucking into the biggest slice of carrot cake in a bid to get out of the cold and rain for a moment or two.
